1. What did you contribute to your team?
Although at the beginning I received the work to be a “scientist.” We worked together as a team, passing around the equipments, giving hands to each other, discussing and processing. I did give some interesting ideas to my team to make some difference on our project and really want to make the tower better.
-- 2. What do you think engineers have to consider when they suggest which materials would be best for a certain structure?
They need to consider about the purpose and expense when they suggest use which materials would be used for a certain structure. Because sometimes good quality material can be very expensive and becoming impossible to own a lot. So they need to consider how many budgets do they have and how are they going to use the materials and money and resources. They not only need to consider about the quality of the structure but also the purpose of building a certain structure. Because a tough and strong structure may not be the best complete the mission. Sometimes an unstable structure is just alright in order to reach another condition which is really necessary in particular environment temporary.
-- 3. What forces cause the tower to tip over?
The gravity
-- 4. What features of the design helped your tower to reach new heights?
The triangle structure of our tower helped us to make it strong enough to stand up.
-- 5. After testing what changes did you make to your tower?
We really changed a lot during the process since the material is not a lot and some of them did not work properly in the process.
Firstly, we change many times about how to connect the spaghetti to each other. We really tried to save the tape when we used them because they are apparently not enough but the tape did not work well so we finally used more than two layers on each joint to connect them tightly.
Then, we also change the position to put the tower several times. Since the spaghettis were too thin to stand by themselves on the table. So we finally stick them onto the wall of the control table.
-- 6. Engineers early ideas rarely work out perfectly, How does testing help improve your design?
By testing repeatedly, engineers can find out where the problem and disadvantages are in order to make improvements. They improve the first plan base on many later tests and changes making.
-- 7. What did you learn from watching others?
The idea triangle structure is stable is really popular among us. And because of the time limitation, we were kind of to ambitions try to build our tower tall but still our group is good!>v<!
