What is the theme?
"Show me the way": the person who really needs some advice from others gets the advice from an unusual or even the wrong person
How does each Act relate to the theme? Answer in complete sentence
Prologue:
This is about a man Mr.X found his wife was cheating on him and decided to get advice from his lawyer and later he found out the lawyer was the guy that had an affair with his wife.
Act 1 Just South of the Unicorns:
This is a story told by Logan Hill, a big fan to Piers Anthony, about another obsessed fan, Andy. Andy ran away from house when he was 15 to see Piers Anthony, his idol author, 1000 mile away from his family. And in fact he didn’t even know how the author looks like at the time he decided to do so.
Act 2 Oh! The Places You Will NOT Go!
This story was written and performed by David Rakoff and Jonathan Goldestein, with a cameo by Julie Snyder. The story is about man who thinks himself has turned into a cockroach and writes to a world famous doctor for advice who only replies him in rhyme. Finally the man died and his sister wrote to the doctor and says in fact the man is a beetle not a cockroach.
Why do you think the producers decided to include a nonfiction and fiction story?
Is this effective storytelling? Does each story flow logically? How does the music impact the
storytelling? Would you have put the stories in this order were you a producer
of this show?
I think the producers did this to show that “show me the way” can happen in any place and it is hard to say the person you asked for help is wrong or not. There is not really a line or standard to show your advisor is a good one or an improper one. This storytelling is very attractive since at the beginning the listeners won’t know the story is real or fiction and they will think it is really unusual and amazing. So they will keep listening to find what really happened. All three stories connect to the theme and flow logically. And the music makes the story more vivid and emotional. They contributed a lot to create a good story ambiance. If I am a producer of this show I will keep the order because I think the stories flow from pellucid to obscure which is a progressive way. This arrangement was good for listeners’ to understand the theme and in order to get the obscure part which came up later in the show.
